he school year at Mayfield was filled with energy, pride, and a long list of accomplishments that carried students from the cold days of midterms to the celebrations of spring. The Wildcats shined in athletics, with baseball earning a conference championship and track and field producing state titles, broken records, and a sense of momentum for the future. The performing arts program brought charm to the stage with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, marking the final production for longtime director Larry Braun, who “has worked with hundreds of students on an array of musicals and plays.” Students in Excel TECC built an entire simulated Wild West town, and the Service Learning Club spent time in Ohio City serving meals, visiting homeless camps, and cleaning the Cuyahoga River, experiences that reflected the school’s commitment to community responsibility.

The year also celebrated academic achievement, with Honors Day awarding scholarships to forty‑eight seniors, supported by generous alumni who “can be very proud of the financial assistance they provide.” The Alumni Association highlighted the rich history of the old high school as it approaches its centennial, sharing stories of early classes, longtime educators, and artifacts like the wooden trunk etched with names from as early as 1927. Reunions across many graduating years are planned, and the first Alumni Band Night will bring former musicians back to the field. The newsletter closed with gratitude for a year marked by success, tradition, and community spirit, reminding graduates and friends that Mayfield continues to grow while honoring the legacy that shaped it.

The newsletter opens with student writer Gianna Condelli sharing a lively look at life at Mayfield, from welcoming new principal Brian Linn to celebrating a spirited fall filled with football games, a Disco Fever Homecoming, and standout achievements in athletics, arts, and academics. She highlights moments that made the semester shine, like the girls soccer team’s conference title, multiple All‑Ohio honorees, and the theater department’s production of Rent, Teen Edition, which brought “the hustle and bustle of New York and real world situations on stage” . Gianna closes by reflecting on how students give back, especially through the annual Santa Breakfast, and she notes that the school community continues to push forward with pride and purpose.

The rest of the newsletter turns its attention to alumni life, honoring donors, celebrating new scholarships, and spotlighting the long history of the Alumni Museum, which has moved from the old middle school to the Little Red Schoolhouse and now to the Humanities Library. Readers learn about the “Pat on the Back” program that rewarded all 657 Mayfield employees with discounts at alum‑owned businesses, as well as the accomplishments of Hall of Fame inductees and alumni who have made their mark in fields from art to federal law enforcement to music. Class reunions, upcoming events, and memorials round out the issue, reminding readers how deeply connected the Mayfield community remains across generations. One line captures the spirit of the publication well: “This is part of what makes Mayfield High School, and its alums so special.”

The year at Mayfield moved fast, starting with midterms that hit right after a schedule change and left seniors fighting off senioritis while still decorating halls, choosing colleges, and saying their early goodbyes. Even with the rush, the school filled the months with moments worth remembering. The track team shined again with athletes like Nick Biega heading to the state finals, and the baseball team claimed a sectional title before falling in the district round. The spring musical, Ragtime, became a standout event with students earning top honors at the Dazzle Awards. Prom brought its own magic with a Masquerade Ball at La Vera and an After Prom full of go karts, laser tag, and a Swenson’s food truck. Graduation at the Connor Palace wrapped it all together with heartfelt speeches and the reminder to “be curious and not judgemental” .

The newsletter also celebrates the people who shape Mayfield long after students leave the building. Forty seven seniors earned scholarships thanks to alumni support, and the Staff Hall of Fame welcomed four new inductees whose influence spans decades. Stories shared by former students show how teachers like Frank Cikach, Tim Donoughe, Millicent Sinden, and Norman Rozell left lasting marks on generations. Reunions across the classes brought Wildcats back together, and the annual golf outing gathered alumni for friendly competition and community support. As the student writer closes her final issue, she reflects on the pride she feels for her school and the memories she will carry forward, saying she will always hold Mayfield close and cheering one last time for the Wildcats .

The year at Mayfield was full of energy and pride as students wrapped up another season of accomplishments. The Class of 2022 graduated at the Palace Theater, and the long‑awaited production of Beauty and the Beast finally reached the stage after its original 2020 delay. As the newsletter puts it, “Another successful year for the Wildcats has come to a close” . Athletes brought home conference titles, the prom glowed under an enchanted forest theme, and students earned recognition at the Dazzle Awards. The community also marked transitions within the Alumni Association as longtime board members Nancy West and Judy Delfs stepped down after decades of service, while Lisa Benedetti joined as Membership Chair.

The issue also celebrates the Association’s record scholarship year, awarding support to forty‑six seniors, and looks back at the origins of the Alumni Association, which began in 1980 after an unmet district objective sparked its creation. As the article recalls, Wayne Farinacci took on the task after being told, “You graduated from Mayfield, so I need you to get this Objective done this year” . The newsletter rounds out its storytelling with memories from “Wildcattin’ With Kitty,” tributes to beloved coaches, and a full slate of reunion announcements that show how deeply connected Mayfield graduates remain to one another and to their school.

The year at Mayfield was full of energy and accomplishment, from the long‑awaited staging of Beauty and the Beast to the strong performances of spring athletes and the joy of an enchanted forest prom. Students shined in theater, athletics, and leadership, and the senior class celebrated its graduation at the Palace Theater. The newsletter also shared the retirement of longtime board members Nancy West and Judy Delfs, the appointment of Lisa Benedetti, and the return of Honors Day, where scholarships were awarded to a remarkable number of seniors. Throughout these stories, the pride in the students and the gratitude toward the alumni community came through clearly. As one line from the document put it, “Prom was a magical celebration for the upperclassmen and a bittersweet goodbye to the seniors.”

The issue also looked back at the origins of the Alumni Association, tracing its beginnings to a single unmet objective in the late seventies that sparked Wayne Farinacci’s effort to build something lasting. That history sat alongside glimpses into earlier decades through “Wildcattin’ with Kitty,” tributes to beloved coaches, and pages of reunion announcements that showed how deeply connected the classes remain. The newsletter closed with updates on the golf outing, new inductees to the Staff Hall of Fame, and a remembrance section honoring alumni who have passed. It carried the same steady message found throughout the document: this community remembers its people, celebrates its milestones, and keeps finding ways to stay together. One passage captured that spirit well: “All had a great time marching down memory lane.”

Mayfield spent the year finding its way back to a sense of normal, beginning with students and teachers returning to the building on August 18. The school community threw itself into long‑missed traditions, from a lively Homecoming themed “A Diamond in the Rough” to a fall musical that brought audiences back to the auditorium. Students filled the stands at football games even in a rebuilding season, and the band lifted spirits each week. The National Honor Society welcomed new inductees during an in‑person ceremony, where Mr. Shirey spoke about how much he enjoys watching students grow, saying he loves to see them “inside and outside of school.”

The Alumni Association stayed just as active, rallying support through Super Bowl Squares, improving the Alumni Pavilion, and honoring the oldest living alums with recorded interviews. Philanthropy flourished, with graduates funding new scholarships and helping maintain campus spaces. The newsletter also celebrated Hall of Fame inductees whose careers in service, business, and leadership began at Mayfield, and it highlighted the many reunions, memorials, and community events that keep graduates connected. Throughout the issue, the message is clear. Mayfield’s memories, traditions, and people continue to shape the school, and the Association works hard to make sure those stories “will never evaporate.”

The year at Mayfield closed with a feeling of relief as students finally stepped back into something that resembled normal life. Seniors crossed the field at Wildcat Stadium with their families cheering from the stands, grateful to celebrate without masks after a year of uncertainty. The writer reflects on how the class pushed through every twist and turn, noting how graduation felt peaceful and earned after so much upheaval. Spring sports brought the same sense of renewal as baseball, track, and tennis teams finished with standout seasons. Students spoke about friendship, teamwork, and the joy of simply being able to play again. Prom returned as well, giving the Class of 2021 the chance to dance together and reclaim traditions they had feared losing.

The newsletter then shifts to the pride of the community as scholarships were awarded to dozens of seniors who excelled in academics, athletics, service, and leadership. Each student’s story highlights the work they put in and the gratitude they feel for the teachers and programs that shaped them. The document also celebrates alumni reunions, from the Class of 1970 opening a time capsule to smaller gatherings that remind graduates how strong their ties remain. Throughout the stories, the writer’s voice stays rooted in appreciation for the people who kept Mayfield moving forward and for the memories that continue to bind students and alumni together.

Students returned to Mayfield in the fall of 2020 to a school year that felt both familiar and changed. Classes began on Zoom, with freshmen starting high school from their desks at home and seniors hoping their final year would bring some sense of normalcy. As students slowly returned to the building, the district put new safety measures in place, from one‑way hallways to spaced desks and a block schedule. The community also prepared for a major transition as Superintendent Dr. Keith Kelly announced his retirement, and Mayfield welcomed back Dr. Michael Barnes, who began his career in the district in 1995 and was described as someone whose vision centers on “the education of every student.” Fall sports pushed forward under strict health orders, with the football team reaching the playoffs and students cheering from fences and car windows. As one senior put it, “Cheering on the boys from the fence was one way to keep the Mayfield spirit alive.”

Even with the challenges of the pandemic, the school year carried moments of pride and connection. Girls tennis and volleyball celebrated standout seasons, and senior athletes earned state‑level recognition. Homecoming traditions were reshaped, with the court postponed to the second semester and the dance left to memory, but the effort to give seniors something meaningful was clear. NHS welcomed 25 new inductees during a Zoom ceremony, honoring students for scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Beyond student life, the newsletter highlighted the generosity of scholarship donors, the creation of new scholarships honoring beloved teachers, and the continued growth of the Alumni Museum. The issue also shared personal stories from alumni, updates on community projects like the planned realignment of the high school entrance, and heartfelt reflections from Dr. Kelly as he thanked the district for “the most rewarding” years of his career. Through every change, the spirit of Mayfield remained steady and deeply rooted in its people.

Mayfield’s 2019–2020 school year unfolded in ways no one expected, yet the community kept finding ways to lift its students. Classes shifted online, teachers held optional video chats, and seniors were given a commencement that felt personal and heartfelt. As one student said, “Each student got the opportunity to have a more personalized commencement, and even though it wasn’t what we expected, it is something we will remember and talk about for the rest of our lives.” The year also brought losses in the arts and athletics, from the canceled production of Beauty and the Beast to the spring sports season that never began, but students still reflected with gratitude on the memories they made and the futures they were stepping into. Even in isolation, the NHS letter buddy program helped students stay connected in a way that felt almost nostalgic, reminding them of “when we used to have Pen Pals back in elementary school.”

The newsletter also celebrates the resilience and generosity that define the Mayfield community. Thirty‑four seniors received a combined $27,500 in scholarships, each recognized for their dedication in the classroom and beyond. Alumni and staff were honored for decades of service, and reunion committees worked to keep traditions alive despite the uncertainty of the pandemic. Stories of alumni leadership, from Jim Walsh’s life in Palm Desert to Greg Studen’s conservation work, sit alongside heartfelt tributes in the In Memoriam section. The issue closes with pride in Principal Jeffrey Legan, named Ohio Principal of the Year, described by colleagues as someone who “puts himself last and his school first.” Through every challenge, the spirit of Mayfield comes through clearly: steady, supportive, and deeply connected.

Students and alumni had plenty to celebrate this year as Mayfield opened its doors in August with the usual mix of nervous freshmen and confident seniors ready to make their mark. The fall brought an undefeated regular season for the Wildcats, a spirited playoff run, and a football crowd that never stopped cheering. The school musical lit up the stage with Chicago, Homecoming rolled out a red carpet fit for stars, and both the girls tennis and soccer teams brought home championships. A new program called the Options gave seniors a chance to learn at their own pace, and the National Honor Society welcomed forty‑eight new members who were honored for scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

The wider Mayfield community stayed just as active. Alumni supported scholarships, gathered for reunions, and joined in on fundraisers like the annual Super Bowl Squares and the upcoming golf outing at StoneWater. The Alumni Museum continued to grow with donated memorabilia, while stories from past decades resurfaced through “Wildcattin’ with Kitty.” The district also celebrated the launch of the Mobile Innovation Lab, a project built with help from students, teachers, and generous donors. Alumni achievements were highlighted through Hall of Fame inductions and profiles of graduates who have carried Mayfield’s values into their careers. Through every event and memory, the shared pride in Mayfield remained the thread that tied the community together.
