The 2003 Fall/Winter issue of The Alumni Voice celebrates another lively year at Mayfield, where students, staff, and alumni continue to make the Wildcat community proud. The Class of 2004 kicked off its “Cowboy Roundup” senior year with energy and generosity, raising over $21,000 for United Way—a point the newsletter calls “a truly remarkable achievement” . Homecoming brought alumni back to the halls of MHS for a dazzling “Night on the Town,” complete with the crowning of Kammeron Hughes as queen. Across athletics, arts, and academics, Mayfield students shined: football triumphed over Brush, the soccer and volleyball teams dominated, the fall play The Final Trial of Richard III showcased student talent, and six Wildcats earned National Merit Semifinalist honors. The issue also highlights the newly launched Class of ’70 website and the touching memorial video honoring beloved teacher and drama director John Szuhay, described as “one of our very best” whose influence “will live on forever” .
The newsletter also reflects the deep bonds within the alumni community. Reunion stories—from the Class of ’58’s dual celebrations to the Class of ’63’s two‑day fest—capture the joy of reconnecting and honoring influential staff. The annual Reverse Raffle and Staff Hall of Fame induction drew record attendance, celebrating inductees Dutch Schmidt, Rick Miner, Barb Pfender, and Mike Niland with heartfelt tributes from former students and colleagues. The Association continues its mission through scholarship acknowledgments, a call to help locate “lost members,” announcements of upcoming events like Memorabilia Night, and recognition of new members and those recently lost. Through every page, the newsletter reinforces what it means to be part of the Mayfield family—shared history, shared pride, and a community that keeps showing up for one another.
