Spring/Summer 2009

The school year at Mayfield unfolded with the kind of energy and pride that make Wildcat memories last a lifetime. Students moved from winter festivities to spring achievements with the familiar mix of excitement and tradition—crowning new kings and queens at Winter Formal and Prom, celebrating athletic triumphs like the girls’ swim team earning “the first NOC championship title in Mayfield history,” and watching seniors break records in track, baseball, and wrestling. Academically, the community honored its top scholars at the annual Honor’s Day Assembly, where standout students earned scholarships, state‑level math awards, and recognition for excellence across clubs, arts, and service. Graduation capped the year with heartfelt speeches from Jenny Liu, Josette Galiano, and Mark Fadel before the class stepped into its next chapter.

Beyond student life, the newsletter wove together the broader story of the Mayfield alumni community—celebrating scholarship generosity, sharing reunion plans, and spotlighting alumni accomplishments from public service to biomedical innovation. It also warned readers about a misleading website “that is not connected with the Mayfield High School Alumni Association,” urging graduates to rely on official channels to stay connected. The issue honored the memories of alumni and staff who passed away, highlighted the annual golf outing’s surprises—including a rare hole‑in‑one—and reflected on the legacy of beloved teacher and coach Ed Ferris through a touching letter from 1968. Together, these stories painted a portrait of a school and community that continues to grow, remember, and support one another across generations.
