Fall/Winter 2012

Mayfield’s Fall/Winter 2012 season was filled with the kind of spirit, service, and achievement that reminds us why our alma mater remains such a source of pride. Students rallied together after the Sandy Hook tragedy, creating hundreds of snowflakes because, as one student said, “it was a great way to show that we care.” Homecoming brought 300 Wildcats to a night in “Polynesian Paradise,” where Mikki Vance was crowned queen, and the halls buzzed with bonfires, parades, and pep assemblies. The student band Evolution raised funds for the English Department with a packed concert, while athletes delivered standout seasons—football battling into the Division I playoffs and boys’ soccer once again capturing conference and district titles. The district also celebrated its fourth consecutive “Excellent with Distinction” rating, a testament to the dedication of students, staff, and families.

Beyond the school walls, alumni stories continued to shine. The Association introduced two new scholarships, including the Wayne Farinacci Dedication and Commitment Award honoring his decades of leadership, and the “Little Joe” Micale Literary Scholarship inspired by his Hollywood career and beloved newspaper columns. The newsletter also highlighted Hall of Fame inductees whose careers span medicine, law, business, and community service, each crediting Mayfield for shaping their paths. From retirees gathering in Hilton Head to young alumni committing to collegiate athletics, the Wildcat community remains vibrant, connected, and ever supportive. As the Association noted when asked about multi‑class reunions, “Not only is this a good idea, but the Alumni Association has used it,” reflecting the ongoing commitment to keeping Wildcats of all generations linked in tradition and friendship.
