Mayfield HS Alumni Association

The official website of the Mayfield HS Alumni Association, Mayfield, Ohio

Fall/Winter 2018

The fall and winter at Mayfield were packed with the kind of energy that reminds us why this community is special. Students kicked off the year with football victories, a lively Homecoming week, and a “Blast to the Past” dance that filled the school with 1950s diner charm. The football team fought hard through the season, and student leaders—from Spirit Coordinators to United Way Ambassadors—kept school pride high while raising nearly $5,000 for charity. Mayfield once again earned the Ohio Department of Education’s Momentum Award, a testament to teachers who, as the newsletter proudly notes, “ensure that our students exceed their growth expectations.” The Alumni Association stayed equally active, hosting fundraisers like Super Bowl Squares, preparing for the annual golf outing, and continuing renovations to the Alumni Museum, which is collecting class rings and memorabilia to preserve Mayfield’s history.

This issue also celebrates the remarkable accomplishments of Mayfield alumni. From Howard Maier’s cartooning career—launched after a teacher once told him his drawings “looked too much like cartoons”—to Hall of Fame inductees like aviation leader Michael Rossi, U.S. Attorney Carole Rendon, Judge Dominic Coletta, and journalist Chelsia Marcius, the stories highlight how far Wildcats go while staying rooted in the values they learned at home. The newsletter honors community champions Jolene and Dan Greve, remembers classmates and staff who have passed, and shares joyful reunion recaps from classes spanning 1958 to 1998. Through every page, the message is clear: Mayfield’s spirit endures because its people—students, alumni, families, and friends—continue to show up, give back, and carry the green‑and‑white forward.
