Spring/Summer 2004

The Spring/Summer 2004 issue of The Alumni Voice captures a year of pride, accomplishment, and heartfelt transitions at Mayfield. As the Class of ’04 wrapped up its “Cowboy Roundup” year, the newsletter celebrates a student body that excelled “in academics, sports, on the stage, and in their service to the Mayfield community” . From a vibrant Middle Eastern cultural dinner hosted by PRIDE, to standout athletic seasons—including a state championship by wrestler Michael Ward—the issue highlights a school alive with energy. The arts shined just as brightly, with dazzling productions of Oliver! and You Can’t Take It With You, and a spring break that sent the marching band to Disney World and French students to Paris. Prom weekend, themed “Amazed by You,” capped the year before 331 seniors crossed the graduation stage, led by valedictorian Aleksandra Brikman and salutatorian Sherry Liu.

The newsletter also honors the deep generosity and involvement of Mayfield alumni. A full slate of scholarships—ranging from memorial awards to the inaugural Butch Woodie Scholarship—recognized students for character, academics, leadership, and service. The issue introduces the 2004–05 Alumni Executive Board, lists upcoming reunions and events, and spotlights distinguished alumni achievements, from judicial appointments to national musical careers. It also features the 2004 Alumni Hall of Fame inductees, including Dr. Katherine Arnold Kolcaba, whose pioneering “Comfort Theory” has shaped modern nursing, and Ronald Kramer, celebrated for building one of the nation’s most innovative public radio networks . Through celebrations, remembrances, and calls for continued connection, the newsletter reflects a community that remains tightly woven across generations.
