Spring/Summer 2016

The spring and summer at Mayfield were filled with the kind of moments that remind us why our alma mater still feels like home. Students celebrated a “magical” prom night, crowned Olivia Ferrito and Kotaro Umeda, and watched history unfold as Gianna DiPippo became Mayfield’s first Girls State Champion in Track and Field, breaking the school shot‑put record with a throw of “44’ 11″” . The Alumni Association continued its proud tradition of supporting students, awarding $23,000 in scholarships to 27 deserving seniors whose achievements spanned academics, athletics, service, and the arts. Reunion plans filled the calendar as classes from 1956 through 2006 prepared to gather once again at the Alumni Pavilion, Landerhaven, and other familiar spots, proving that Wildcat pride only grows stronger with time.

The alumni community also came together for major events like Game Night—where over $15,000 in prizes were awarded—and the annual golf outing, highlighted by Al Gunner’s stunning hole‑in‑one on the 17th hole, a shot so perfect he didn’t realize it had dropped until he walked up and asked the spotter where his ball had gone: “where his ball was!” . The newsletter celebrated alumni achievements—from new teachers and medical professionals to an MLB draftee and Ohio’s first Poet Laureate—and honored those we’ve lost. Through every update, the message was clear: Mayfield’s history is rich, its community devoted, and its alumni continue to shape the legacy that future Wildcats will inherit.
