Spring/Summer 2017

The close of the 2017 school year at Mayfield was filled with the kind of moments that remind us why this community is so special. Students danced under the “City of Stars” at Prom, where Maureen Baldzicki reflected that being crowned Queen was “one of the most exciting and honorable experiences I have ever had,” and senior athletes capped off memorable seasons—from Dominique Miller’s trip to the state meet to baseball’s 20‑win year and softball’s thrilling playoff upset. Seniors marched proudly into Honors Day, where 28 hardworking Wildcats earned $21,000 in Alumni Association scholarships, and the Class of 2017 celebrated its commencement at the State Theatre. The newsletter also honored beloved alumni and staff who passed away, reminding us how deeply woven these individuals are into Mayfield’s history.

Beyond student achievements, the Alumni Association kept its traditions thriving. Game Night brought in over $15,000 in prizes thanks to generous sponsors, and the annual golf outing—complete with a tempting but unwon $60,000 hole‑in‑one prize—drew alumni from across generations. Reunion plans filled the calendar for classes from 1952 to 1987, while updates from retired faculty painted a picture of lives still rich with travel, family, and service. With the Alumni Museum preparing for its new home and a renewed push to document Mayfield’s full history, the spirit of connection remains strong—proof that whether celebrating, remembering, or gathering again, the Wildcat community continues to show up for one another.
